OT - story for the romantics out there

Hi all,

There is a Persian tale along the lines of Romeo and Juliet, where two lovers meet but can never be together forever. Their names are Leyli (the woman) and Majnoon (the man). I found this little story on the back of a Persian love songs album (yes, the old vinyl kind...lol...showing my age). I thought it was sweet, and wanted to share it with all the romantic folks who are away from their loved ones:

*****
A traveller saw Majnoon sitting all alone in the middle of the desert. Using a flat surface of sand as a sheet of paper and his fingers as a pen, he was writing the name of his beloved Leyli over and over again.

The traveller said: Oh, mad Majnoon! What are you doing? If writing a letter, who is to receive it?

Majnoon replied: I practice the name of Leyli - since I cannot reach her in real union, I make love with her name.

What a beautiful story this is- touched me as both a closet romantic and a lover of Sufi stories :)...

And what else are we doing every day if not making love to the names of those we cannot reach in real union- with strings of sand consisting of thoughts, words and sending off our love into the eternity of more than virtual realities.

Thanks for making my day!

Rebecca
