I remember him as Cardinal Wolsey in Man For All Seasons. Paul Scofield got the Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of Sir Thomas More.

The books are great. Most of them are short stories and most of the episodes were based on the stories. They are easy reading.
BTW, there used to be an Immigration Judge in Los Angeles whom the bar called "The Mad Bull."

Gotta love Leo Kern. Rumpole was a fitting character for him and saw most of the episodes that were broadcast here, but I also had the pleasure of seeing him in Shakespearian roles. He was a tremendous actor.

With all due respect - the British have a knack for these shows,
Rumpole, Morse and a host of others. They just do them better then the
uber-violent versions we see here like "The Shield". But I am surprised
the Rumpole is so revered by the legal eagles here. He is so utterly
different and the legal system in which he functions is totally alien to
what we here, both in fiction - TV -and reality. This is not a judgement
over which is "better or worse" they just evolved differently.
Here's a thought...imagine Rumpole doing immigration cases...

Now that i'd like to see except that the network would cast some
American actress as Lynda and it would be horrible
