A few weeks ago someone reported an escaped lion in the UK. If I remember correctly a nearby school was evacuated, helicopters were launched, SWAT teams were called out...it was then discovered to be a large stuffed lion toy that someone had put in a field.

T'was a tiger, but the rest of the story is correct, BUT what would people have said if it had been a real one, and the police hadn't taken it seriously.
