OT: green card lottery and non-immigrant visa

Hi,

I have a question for a friend of mine. She is in the US on a J1 student/no 2-year requirement. She will have to renew her visa soon.

She was wondering about trying the green card lottery. Would this be detrimental when she would have to renew her visa in a couple of months? Would she have an harder time at the POE?

I don't think there is any link between a visa application and the lottery. I think things may get complex if your friend wins the lottery but I am sure she would actually be happy to be at this stage.

Anyway, I played the lottery pretty much every year till recently (obviously) and have been through different visas and renewals (J1 & H1-B). I have never had a problem at a POE. Same things with many many of my friends. Actually, one of them won the lottery last year ;)
