OT: Chuffed to Bits! :D
I GOT ME A JOB!! :D:D:D
After arriving on a K1 in September last year and filing for AOS, EAD and AP in October, I obtained my EAD in December. So, in early 2004 I started the wonderful process of scouring the job market. Although I had no set ideas about what I wanted to do over here (anything would have been good just to get some experience), I was disappointed to say the least with the amount and type of positions I saw advertised. It didn't help that leaving England last year also meant that I left the job of 14½ years that I loved. :( I revamped my CV (résumé!) and started applying for all types of positions but I must admit, the thought of being interviewed after all those years AND in a different country made me a little nervous! I saw a very interesting sounding position which required the skills and experience I had acquired back in England, so I applied, feeling quite positive, hoping that I would hear some good news. It seemed ages before I heard anything but... I was invited for an interview! Whopeeeee! Although I was really keen on this position, I decided to just try and relax, enjoy the interview experience and just do my best. I felt that things went quite well and was delighted to hear that I had been invited to a second interview! Apparently it was between me and one other person and again, I thought things went well. I waited with frayed nerves! The interview was on a Wednesday and I received a call on the Friday afternoon saying that I had been successful!!! I can't believe it - my first interview and it resulted in a fantastic job offer! :D I still have to pass a drug test and BCI and reference checks, but after arriving successfully on a K1, I don't forsee any problems there! All being well, I start on April 12th - my birthday! VISITING MY OLD "HOME"... And just to put the icing on the cake, me and hubby are travelling back to visit England at the end of this month. After receiving my Advance Parole, I finally get to see my family and friends again after over 7 months - I can't wait! I'll let you know how I get on using AP...! The timing of all this couldn't be better in my mind. Although I feel very lucky to have been offered a job, unfortunately last week we also received some very sad news. Now at least our family gets to be together for support, and when I come back, I'm going to throw all my energy and concentration into my new job. I am eager to meet a whole bunch of new people, earn some money and really start living the American life! Thanks for reading! :) |

I am all intrigued now!!!:D:D The company that I am going to work for is very large with many different departments and up until now, there has been no standard for collecting and storing data. Therefore, the department I will be in is going to be setting up a new database system, which will then be implemented globally throughout the company. I shall be working with the various departments to identify their needs, and then getting involved with the structure of the database, including the creation of user input forms, queries and reports so that the data can be entered quickly into user friendly interfaces and then analysed effectively! At least that's what they said at the interview... :D |
