Default Only took 10 years but...

...while on our holiday last week, on our way up to Mount Desert Island in Maine, finally saw a live, wild moose crossing the road.

My mother, it was her third week long visit to see us.

Oh well :/

So have you lot seen the local wildlife or have they been as elusive?

A Bob-cat (ironically) made an appearance in the back yard when my folks were here a couple of years back. Only time I ever saw one.

Nope.

Where we live, about 1/2 block away, less maybe, is a road that runs in to the edge if the desert out to I10. Plenty of signs tell us to look out for tha animals. Never seen any evidence of anything!!

When I lived in New Brighton, Merseyside, I used to see the local wildlife staggering up the hill, on Friday & saturday Nights after a heavy drinking session.

Not too much of that, in Eastern Iowa, nowadays.

Been here 8 months, & we've seen a woodchuck in the back garden as well as lots of deer --two youngsters, two or three does, and a young buck[?].

Coyotes have been sighted in this part of CT, but I've not seen one of those yet.

The irony for us though, the in-laws live on a stretch of road called Moose Alley.

Apparently there are loads up there if you can be bothered to get up at 2-3 in the morning, but I was never that bothered

Plenty of deer, we see those all the time, also helps the eyes glow in the headlights, unlike moose.

I have let to see a coyote, but have seen a wolf out where we used to live in Maine, which was really weird.

Lots of coyotes around here, too. They "sing" a great deal around midnight. We have a fox on the property who is very active at present -- think there may be some babies at home that he/she is foraging for. Skunks pass by a lot at night, but we usually just smell them! Unfortunately, when I actually see skunks or raccoons it is when they are sick and come out in the daytime.

2 years ago I saw a porcupine wandering across the yard so took a photo then accidentally deleted it so no one believed me
finally saw another last week when out for a walk with OH (but no camera!!)

apart from that loads of moose when visiting Greenville ME, deer in the yard and a pheasant which has set up home in the trees behind the house.

My sister lives in remote area in southern Arizona, way off the beaten track, on a dirt road. We don't even go for walks out there, because we've seen javelinas, coyotes, rattlesnakes, tarantulas, scorpions, you name it. And of course the cute ones...quail, rabbits, the occasional deer.

But up here in the city (Phoenix), I've only ever seen one coyote, and one rattlesnake, while hiking at South Mountain park.

Out in eastern Arizona, they have elk, and I have seen plenty of those on different driving trips out that way. They are HUGE, and beautiful.

I've seen moose and a mama grizzly and her two cubs while in Alaska. Have seen a fox on Route 41 going into Pittsfield, MA. Have seen a coyote running up a hill while I was driving on the Taconia going home from a visit to Pittsfield. Saw a beautiful red tailed hawk on the median of the same parkway having lunch. Have spotted deer along the roadways within two miles of my home and in the states of New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts. Waited on a country road once for an opposum to cross the road (slowest critter I ever encountered). We killed a woodchuck on the highway going into Ottawa once. Damn thing darted out and we had no where to go to avoid him/her. Have seen wild turkeys in the park close to home, on the saw mill river parkway in Westchester, in someone's yard. Saw quail while on her honeymoon on Block Island, Rhode Island.

Plenty of woodchuck's around here, squirrels galore, not as many deer as I've seen in the past and we're now being visited by some kind of huge bird (the feathered kind obviously ), not sure if it's a hawk/osprey or what, don't think it's big enough to be an eagle, but I'm shocked at how tame it is. It sits in 2 trees, one in the back yard and one across the street in the front. Thankfully, there doesn't seem to be as many coyote's here, I used to cringe every time they started calling to each other when they were making a kill, horrible, horrible noise......

Oh, and my OH found a small garder snake in the back yard while he was attacking the carpenter bees that were hovering around the pool, was gone by the time I got there unfortunately, as I wanted a look!!
