Actually, a lot of UK presenters now have dialect and accents you couldn't cut through with a knife. They may speak with perfect grammar (who knows?), but their pronunciation is way out in left field. BBC news presenters are an exception on the whole, but flip through the channels and it won't take long to find an impenetrable Geordie, Scottish, or Brummie accent.

When I started teaching I realised part of being understood was the need to moderate my accent, whereas these days it seems a matter of pride if you can speak with a regional accent so thick that only 50% of the audience can figure out what the heck you're talking about.

Oh yeah it's just great to have your whole viewing of a film or program totaly f**ked up because of the relentless advertisements you either put up with it or rush out and get a DVR

That's nothing compared to the 700 mile high fence on the Mexican border that Fox once reported on.

I've been hoping to see Fiona Bruce step out of the shower many, many times.

Sadly disappointed thus far though

As opposed to being able to buy all the shit bread you like at silly o'clock in Wallyworld?

You could be right about 'us' (Brits) feeling a bit impolite if we complain about the speed of service. I think your way is pretty cool and I will definintely be trying it next time we are out!

I almost dropped my teeth last Friday. We had gone to Cracker Barrel, so DH could get a fish and chips fix. Usually, the service is pretty good there, but our waitress that night was in a rush with an obvious mental checklist of okay, I've brought the drinks, the food, given them the check (right after she put down the food), good, they're off my to do list. What we had gotten used to there, was someone checking back to at least see if we wanted any more water or coffee etc. Plus as a former waitress myself, if you want a good tip, at least offer to check on or get them dessert. DH not amused and said well you're not going to tip her are you? When it comes to service standard, he's certainly become Americanized,
