The fiancé and I met out of mutual cheapness: both of us wrote our email address (albeit hers was an alias) in the description section of our profile as the website charged people to send messages.

Five or so years later and we are just about over the hurles.

Australian Immigration used to read the Aus Immi forum on here. Caught a couple of people doing illegal stuff if I remember correctly. However telling someone about a legitimate way to enter the US is not illegal.

Giving people bad advice and spouting utter bö11ocks isn't illegal either.

It's not even that unusual anymore. When I went for my K1 interview the dude didn't even bat an eyelid when I said we met online and just asked what site we met on.

Most of the weddings I've been to in the last 6 years have met on match or e-harmony

TMP is one of few younger people who would find that surprising. ..... A couple of the senior members of BE have expressed reservations about the credibility of on-line relationships, and about suggesting them to someone coming to BE looking for advice.

I thought there was a small chance of getting an RFE on my app because my fiancee (sat with me) just said that we'd met online and not explained the website (though said NO to IMB). I-129F was approved with no issue. We'll see what the interview brings.

I think the future in-laws were a little hesitant at first - probably reading online horror stories. It took a couple of trips for them to get comfortable.

Now I frequently talk to them on Skype when the fiancee is home and they're fine about it.

And that's parents from the south.

My in-laws were too, as were my parents. That said, the first time I came to the US to meet the not-yet-pending Mrs P (it was the following year before we got engaged), I stayed at my in-laws house for the whole trip, so demonstrating my honorable intentions and lack of things to hide.

After the not-yet-pending Mrs P visited my parents, my mother, who had had a life-long avowed dislike of Americans (despite having met very few of them), told me shortly afterwards, that "she's a really nice girl, it's almost like she's not American at all!"

Both sets of our in-laws were more concerned about the interracial marriage aspect rather than the online bit.

Now my Chinese MiL (who told my husband in front of me that I was too old, too fat, too white and not even American) thinks I'm much better than her other daughter in law who is younger, thinner, Fujianese descent and a born USC.

I'm not one of those! Sheila and I met online when it was truly unusual... long before eharmony had been invented. Indeed the chat place we met doesn't exist anymore! We'll be married 18 years next month! Our interfaith marriage has never been an issue for her family or mine.

a friend of mine <snip> got divorced from an utter nutjob. Off his rocker, narcissist that she was lucky to survive (previous wife committed suicide). He disappeared off the face of the earth and was wanted by the swiss police for amongst other things, tax evasion. 5 years after the divorce, still traumatised and definitely wary, her daughters persuaded her to join an online dating site. Guess who it paired her up with? Yep. New name etc. She informed Swiss Police and he is now awaiting sentencing and due to new swiss laws will be deported afterwards.

No freaking way will I ever go near an online dating site......
