Default NYC

Hello people of America

Looks like our job is nearly done in East Hartford and we'll get a good few days in NYC, over thanksgiving too.

Apart from all the obvious must see things, if anybody knows any little secret gems, like restaurants, bars, tours, somewhere for TG dinner, or definite waste of times, it'd be much appreciated.

Well, Broadway is on strike so don't plan on any shows. The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade is Thursday and is quite a spectacle. Big inflated balloons heading down Broadway between the Park and Macys. A popular NY thing to do is to head down the night before when they fill up the balloons. Lots of folks bring some beer out and make a bit of a street party of it as giant inflatable animals pop up in the sky.

I think in previous threads people have recommended the store Century 21, which is right across from Ground Zero/WTC. It's a store that if you know what you are doing, you can really find some quality items at a drastically reduced price (or you can get lost in all the crap).

Walking the streets of Chinatown is fun. Joe's Shanghai at #9 Pell Street in Chinatown is home of 'soup dumplings' which are these pork dumplings with the soup inside the dumpling (i.e. quite an adventure to eat). #24 West 56th is their midtown branch.

What days are you in NYC and where are you staying?

On the corner of Mott and Hester in downtown Manhattan (nearest subway is Canal St, i think) there is a wonderful italian place called Vincents.

Back in the 80's, this bloke was undercover with the mob, working for the FBI. When he got out, he wrote an article listing the ten best 'mafia' resturants in New York. Vincents was second or something.

It used to be the haunt of the Locozo crime family, or something.

They do DELICIOUS italian food, very reasonably priced.

Is "or something" today's phrase of the day?

It's not nice to make fun of simple people.

Is that the one where men aren't allowed to remove their jackets?

Thanks guys, I've been reading about the broadway strike, bit of a bummer I wanted to see Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

I am a gangster flick/cult fan so that italian sounds good, and the funny dumplings.

We're staying in the Radisson on Braodway, looks like it could be from tomorrow till Sunday, very close to the parade route, can't believe they recommend you get out at 7am for a spot though!!!

Today is our 5 month wedding anniversary and to celebrate we just went to a "gentlemens club" for lunch.....I feel all naughty now, shame we had to come back to work
