Default No price hike here... just smaller portions!

I have seen this happen before but I was just reading an article online that calls out a few companies/products.

The old stealth price increase... it's really obvious when you try to cook something from an old recipe. The recipe calls for an 8 oz can of X, 28 oz can of Y, one-pound box of Z... go to the store and there's no such thing anymore. X comes in 6 oz cans, Y in 23.5 oz cans, a box of Z is 14 oz.

Maybe the grocery stores should follow the Uk practice of putting the cost per x (100ml here, fl oz there, maybe) on the shelf edge ticket, if they don't do so already.

I've been noticing this lately, 16oz boxes are now 14oz in a lot of items.
Cereal and crackers seem to be leading the way in this downsizing.

Hershey last week announced a 10% increase for most of its confectionery goods.
Go ahead I wouldn't buy it with 10% off on double coupon day

Sorry I have been watching Extreme Couponing on TLC

Wait. There's a show about couponing?? Just when you thought the bottom of the barrel had been well and truly scraped, TLC does it again.

As for the actual topic of the thread. Wagon Wheels, nuff said...

This isn't anything new, its been happening for years, its the best solution for food companies when their prices increase since consumers seem to tolerate shrinking sizes but the price staying the same or roughly the same vs the package staying the same size but the price increasing dollar wise.

Mars bars for example. Can anyone remember the size of them twenty years ago compared to today? I'm talking about UK mars.

Creme eggs are smaller to now.

OK .. I'm going back 50 or more years here... Cadbury's Dairy Milk, the regular bar was 6d. (i.e. 2½p) and you could buy several smaller sized bars, ½d., 1d. and 2d. The regular bar, the one for 6d., was so big it was hard to break the segments off (especially if you were a little kid.)
