I'm sure everyone's imminent suggestion about banning trucks will be really helpful /sarcasm.

Or perhaps we should just thank our lucky stars that something like this didn't happen on the Fourth.

So easy to do.

If Orlando was a gun issue the Nice must be a Lorry issue.

It will certainly be interesting from a US perspective to see how Crooked and Obama deal with this. Probably the Ostrich approach.

Obama, quoted in the UK Guardian

Barack Obama releases statement:

On behalf of the American people, I condemn in the strongest terms what appears to be a horrific terrorist attack in Nice, France, which killed and wounded dozens of innocent civilians. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and other loved ones of those killed, and we wish a full recovery for the many wounded.

I have directed my team to be in touch with French officials, and we have offered any assistance that they may need to investigate this attack and bring those responsible to justice. We stand in solidarity and partnership with France, our oldest ally, as they respond to and recover from this attack.

On this Bastille Day, we are reminded of the extraordinary resilience and democratic values that have made France an inspiration to the entire world, and we know that the character of the French Republic will endure long after this devastating and tragic loss of life.

I thought this thread was about biscuits and then I find out it's more bad news

Do they normally have police around when they block off roads in France?

Tonight my youngest was with friends watching fireworks in Toulouse city centre. My heart stopped as I was half heartedly listening to NPR driving to the supermarket. I breathed again when I heard Nice. Thank god not my baby. But other people's babies.

so senseless. so stupid. what a horrible waste of life. those poor people. poor France.

Might have something to do with the recent labor strife in France. Maybe the ruling class wants to show the labor folks who's really in charge. How dare they demand to keep a 35 hr. work week.
