New England in the Fall
 

Hi all, I don't usually come into this forum but I need some help as I'm trying to book a holiday for my parents.
They will be staying in Boston for a few days in October and would like to go leaf peeping!
Any ideas how to do that from Boston? I can't seem to find any tour companies that will just to maybe an overnight trip either by train or coach.
If they went by train and did it independently where would they get the train to as Amtrak web site was not much help!
Any thoughts and tips please? My parents are young at heart but nearing their 80's!

Just out of curiosity I Googled "fall foliage tours from Boston" and a number of options popped up, including a "guided excursion" on Expedia that would seem appropriate for your folks. Fall Foliage Guided Excursion - null | Expedia

I have sent a PM to Julie, with regards to the Leaf-Peeping. I drive Tours for Saga Holidays, in the Fall, out of Boston, by the way.

Early October might be a bit iffy for MA, western MA is pretty though, out around Northampton.

Probably nicer foliage a hop skip away up in Maine or Vermont.

Easy enough to get a train to Portland from Boston, but then you'd be stuck on how to get around if you didn't have a car.

End of October/beginning of September and you might have more foliage worth looking at closer to Boston area.

Thanks Bob. someone else told me the Northampton was a good place to go and I believe it's not far from Boston?
Will check that out too.

2.5 hours or so.

Yankee Candle is HQ'ed not far and that's a fun shopping experience.

Also not far from basketball hall of fame if that's your thing. Plenty of nice little breweries and pub type places for lunch.

Northampton is a lovely little town to putter about for a bit though.
