And the greatly missed Levon was wonderful as her dad.

I watched Badlands again recently, and commented that no wonder Charlie Sheen went off the rails -- it's tough when your dad was hotter than you'll ever be!

A movie I always liked was The Sting with Newman and Redford. I remember seeing it in Thule Greenland in 1973 with a bunch of Danes. At the end everyone stood up and applauded.

I cannot believe that I left my favourite film off the list nor that no one else has mentioned it despite it perfectly highlighting the racist attitudes that are prevalent in this country.

Blazing Saddles.

'We'll take the n*****s and the c****s, but we don't want the Irish.' I'm told that line brought down the house during cinema showings in Britain, whereas most of the American humour in the rest of the film got a tepid response.

Really? Racist attitudes are "prevalent" in the entire country? Ok.

Possibly not, perhaps you'll enlighten me and tell me what it is about your state that engenders racial Utopia, maybe I'll consider relocating to this paradise where all are treated with respect?
I'll hazard a guess that it isn't anywhere in the quadrant south of Tennessee and west of Texas.

No need cross your arms, roll your eyes and get a bit huffy. You said that Blazing Saddles, a (great) movie made 45 years ago, is a movie an expat should see so that they may understand the "prevalent racism" in the US. I'm pushing back against this. I find your statement overgeneralized, lacking context and slightly offensive. I believe that racist attitudes exist in the US, as they do in any country. I don't agree that racist attitudes are prevalent in the US. It's a big place, lots of people live here.

“Flight” with Denzel Washington is a fantastic film to watch. Watched it three times already. He plays a pilot (of commercial aeroplane) with drug/drink issues, oh its a fab film indeed.

Highly unlikely from the start that a commercial airline pilot would be allowed anywhere near a plane with such issues.. Airline staff and cockpit crew make a habit of reporting a pilot even if his breath smells of booze
