My Life Will Change Forever On Monday
Mrs L is getting hearing aids. I fear I will have to tone down some of my more witty and rhetorical replies to her

You are a wise man. |

See if it comes with a remote control. Maybe an App?

There will be times when the batteries fail and happy moments will be restored briefly.

Awesome news! As a fellow hearing aid user, I can say she's going to love them. I hope it all works out :) If it helps, she might still play the 'deaf card' now and again (not speaking from experience, ahem), so you can still hopefully make your witty comments! ;)

A user here too.
Mine come with bluetooth connectivity right to my iphone. Greatly aids sitting at work listening to the raidio, no one has a clue :0 Even when my iphone rings, it redirects directly to my hearing aids Best thing since sliced bread. |
Re: My Life Will Change Forever On Monday
An Irishman who had a little too much to drink is driving home from the city one night and, of course, his car is weaving violently all over the road. A cop pulls him over. "So," says the cop to the driver, where have ya been?" "Why, I've been to the pub of course," slurs the drunk. "Well," says the cop, "it looks like you've had quite a few to drink this evening." "I did all right," the drunk says with a smile. "Did you know," says the cop, standing straight and folding his arms across his chest, "that a few intersections back, your wife fell out of your car?" "Oh, thank heavens," sighs the drunk. "For a minute there, I thought I'd gone deaf."

Re: My Life Will Change Forever On Monday
As one who is hearing impaired ... classified as profound and next stop for me is a cochlear implant, your wife is going to hate them. She will be hearing noises which are loud, metallic, screeching and will not recognize your voice. They are difficult to program to specific specs and will need many adjustments until she finds the bass/tremble levels that she can tolerate. Depending on how poorly she hears at present, it will be her brain learning to hear all over again.
I wish her much luck and for yourself, be adaptable. I wouldn't be surprised that she is easily irritated until she becomes accustomed to them. PS I don't have Bluetooth technology on my aid nor would I particularly want it. I don't have an iphone or ipad nor anything Apple. I wear the strongest aid available, the last of its kind for the profoundly impaired ... Phonak's Nadia V I also have the free government CaptionCall phone which makes using the telephone easy. |

On this day, the last day that Lansbury has the unassailable right to free speech, let us all bow our heads for a minute's silence.
And then, let us all laugh gleefully, for the image of Lansbury being hit over the head with a saucepan is extremely amusing. Good luck to your wife Lansbury, they take a bit of getting used to (as my Mum frequently tells me REALLY LOUDLY), but they're worth persevering with. She'll be a new woman! |
Re: My Life Will Change Forever On Monday
I very much appreciate the advice given in this thread, Mrs L actually got her aids this morning. One thing not mentioned was how much quieter Mrs L would speak because she can hear herself much better. On the other hand I can’t hear a bloody word she says, and as long as she buys that I have some considerable peace and quiet. I have tried talking as quietly as possible from the other side of the room and she hears every word. She is amazed at what she can now hear and hadn’t realized she was missing doing so. What I find interesting is I wouldn’t have thought her hearing was that bad. She could hold a conversation in normal circumstances and didn’t appear to have a problem, but did miss I thought the occasional word. Watching TV is going to be interesting to see if the volume I can hear at is too loud for her. |
