Re: Moving to America despite hating it
Until I was 8 years old we lived in the north of England, and my single-glazed bedroom window used to get ice on the inside. My room was so small that my bed was sideways against the wall under the window. My bedroom had no heating. At the time it seemed normal and I survived. ..... Today, conditions like that would probably be considered to be child abuse.
He does have a fireplace but doesn't use it.

You had a bed, and a glazed window. When I grew up in the 1950s, such things were distant dreams.

And on that foundation of privilege and excess were built my bourgeois attitudes.

That's describing the bloody high school students round our way. I'm actually starting to like the jocks now because they all look normal

This is funny... I know exactly how the OP feels. When I was younger I can clearer recall saying how much I despised everything that America stood for, how I have no intention or desire to visit there.
Yet, here I am, a citizen of the United States, married to an American, with two American kids, and have been living here for eleven years.
The question in my mind comes down to do you love your partner more than you dislike America. if the answer is no, don't move.

We don't have too many of those idiots, with a load of facial piercings, down here, but when I do see one I can't help but wonder how much ($) I could get for them at the scrap dealer?
