Could very possibly.. Where I grew up there was no real winter, let alone ice and snow. My dad's house doesn't even have a heater installed, was built in the 1950's and apparently in the 50's in San Diego heaters were not needed. I am sure new houses have them though.

He does have a fireplace but doesn't use it.

Oh for gods sake.
You had a bed, and a glazed window. When I grew up in the 1950s, such things were distant dreams.

They don't have it good anymore. They're all weird looking, insufferable twats and it isn't 1994. Who wants to grow up like that?

The students have arrived here and I was just thinking they all look surprisingly normal. There doesn't appear to be an extreme fashion at the moment.

(Maybe that's what you mean by weird )

No, I meant actually weird. You mean there isn't one ridiculous looking twunt wearing girls jeans with those fugly ear hole things among them? Lucky you.

That's describing the bloody high school students round our way. I'm actually starting to like the jocks now because they all look normal

This is funny... I know exactly how the OP feels. When I was younger I can clearer recall saying how much I despised everything that America stood for, how I have no intention or desire to visit there.

Yet, here I am, a citizen of the United States, married to an American, with two American kids, and have been living here for eleven years.

The question in my mind comes down to do you love your partner more than you dislike America. if the answer is no, don't move.

Blokes (usually with comparable girth to myself) wearing jeans that look like they were designed to fit a 10 year old girl. Those big ugly black plastic washers or spikes or some such attention grabbing shite they shove in their ears.

Christ, if that's out of touch, I wish I was too

Ah! I thought you meant the jeans had ear hole things.

We don't have too many of those idiots, with a load of facial piercings, down here, but when I do see one I can't help but wonder how much ($) I could get for them at the scrap dealer?
