Great. In a supposedly free country one would have thought you could just catch a boat for short trip from Key West instead of being affected by the most stupid and counterproductive embargo of the last 100 years.

Even more amazing to me is that said supposedly free country circumscribes legal gambling to such a degree.

some irony there, as I believe that Cuba was a centre for US gambling until its revolution.

Most amazing I suppose means most stunning/memorable.
In that case, it would have to be the desert scenery in Arizona and Nevada.

That was truly amazing.

The more I learn about 'amazing US' from posts on BE, the more I think I'll persuade my TX OH to remain in the UK ... ... She does enjoy living and socialising here and the quick nipping over to continental Europe. Oh, and the four seasons, oddly enough (for some). At least we don't have Bible Belts... more like quick romps across the pews ...

I lived just north of the equator for a couple of years and the weather was pretty much the same all year round - I used to really miss having different seasons.

On one couple of months visit to Texas, I also began to miss the different seasons - even in that short time. Although I must admit, when in Oklahoma on the first day of a New Year, the temps where a comfortable 60-70F.

Oh and there was also quite a lot of american college girls there on spring break who flew via mexico which wasnt a problem for them as the cubans dont stamp passports. Those girls were treated like royalty by the cubans.

American citizens can be fined, but not deported. Anyone else can be removed from the US.

The Cuba embargo applies to anyone under US jurisdiction. Right, wrong or indifferent, it's not just for USCs and Green Card holders.
It would be an embarrassing thing to explain to your boss, that you can't come back from vac.. er holiday because you're back in the UK after your jaunt to Cuba.

I love travel and can't wait for my own visit to Cuba, but there's a million and one other places to go besides Cuba if it's going to negatively impact your immigration future.
