Moan about bills

I just got my water bill and I can't believe my eyes.

Earlier this year, I lived in a 2011 sf house, and used all the usual stuff. Washing machine once a week, dishwasher every day, shower for two people once a day, lawn sprinkler system, blah blah, and my bill was very reasonable considering, it never went over $45-$50.

I am now in a 1 bedroom apartment, hand-wash dishes and never use the dishwasher, no sprinkler, still use shower every day, no washing machine as I use the laundermat up the road, and my jaw hit the floor when I got my bill. Out of a $67 bill, you know how much was spent on actual water consumption? $16........................yes, effing $16!!!!!!!!! :curse: The rest was sewer and other miscellaneous charges.

I know it's a different city and all that but what, they're trying to tell me that their sewer facilities are made of 24ct f****** gold???????? I will of course be calling them to find out if this bill correct, and if I can expect this extortion every month, but I expect I can. :curse:

Anyway, I'm broke now, but it's Friday!!!!

I wonder if there is an undetected water leak in the pipes somewhere eg. from the underground pipeline that you are getting billed for?

Or perhaps the meter is running too fast....just wondering if the apt. is owned by a landlord, if landlord's are allowed to set the meter to run faster and get a 'cut'?

I'd request the water authority if I were you, to come out and check the meter and pipes to detect leaks.

We rent out our house in England but we still have to pay for the water bill and it costs hardly anything.

That was my first thought when I saw the bill, but surely that would reflect on my consumption? I asked a colleague who lives just up the road from me what her bill was like, and she said for 2 people in a place twice the size of mine, with sprinkler, hers is around $60, and she knows that the sewer rates have gone up recently. That's fine, but it costs double my consumption???

I had a similar problem with my electricity bill. The AC was broken when I moved in, and it wasn't registering the temperature properly, so it was running constantly, and wasn't as cool as it could be. This went on for over a week, until I got nasty and demanded they fix it. My leccy bill was $138!!!! I called the utility, as I thought I might be able to get a credit if I could produce a work order as proof, but I was basically told that I'd still used the electric and I chould shove any chance of a credit up my bum.

Honestly don't know how people survive here if they're on a low salary and don't have 2 jobs. I lucked out and got a job that's very well paid considering what I have to do for it, so I can survive, but I can't really live.

Anyway, rant off. Don't want to bring anyone down. IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!!
