Default Missing your German Wursts or Irish Bacon

Then come and visit Karl Ehmer's online store. They had a store here in Yonkers when I was growing up and once a month my German mother and I would go to Karl Ehmer's to get our bratwurst, bloodwurst, weisswurst, hurka and of course, liverwurst.

They left our area in 1999 and I have missed having a place close at hand to buy my German food products. I did a search on yahoo and viola, I found one here in Westchester County, only about 40 minutes from the apartment. And since it is off the Taconia Parkway and I've going to Massachusetts in the morning I intend to take my cooler and ice packs and do a little shopping.

Do try them. I guarantee you will not be disappointed in the food.

I'm not so sure that Brits would find a German wurst to be an adequate substitute for the British sausage (edible kind). My spouse tried to convince me just the other day that a good kielbasa is a substitute for British sausage. I think not!:curse:

I've bought so many packets of sausages and bacon to eat in the few weeks we have left here. I'm hoping I'll be sick of the sight of them by the time we arrive Stateside.

Well, It's breakfast time here and my husband is making Saturday morning bacon and eggs.......

Tell me about it. A sausage just doesn't taste like a sausage without all those anuses, eyelids, ground up trotters and all the other bestest bits of the pig! Good old British banger!!!

Never considered it a substitute. But I know that Brits, as well as other nationalities, like German food.

Good to hear about Karl Ehmer.
My father, emigrated with my mother from England to the US in 1949, and began working at Karl Ehmer a year or so later. He stayed on the job until shortly before his death in 1979. Needless to say, he was the only Englishman at what was otherwise a virtually all-German company.
