Marrowfat Peas
 

Probably get ripped for this, but are marrowfat peas available in the US and if so under what crazy name? It is the only thing I eat out of a tin, and after now being here for two months it's the only food I'm missing :thumbsup:

You wont get ripped by me! I miss them too...I've been here 12 years and have yet to find a canned pea I like.
I feel parenthood ispassing me by.....my eldest is 13 and I still havent been able to tell him to eat his peas, because I never serve them these days:(,

I love Marrowfat Peas. In NJ I bought them from Gary's Winestores or The Irish Shop which are located in malls.

I haven't looked at Amazon...but you can usually buy most things there.

We get tins of Batchelors Marrowfat peas from the local Irish store for $1.99, they are next to the Heinz baked beans :)

I couldn't bring myself to pay that much for peas! They are bloody 69p in Tesco .....thanks for the link though lol

I love 'em too, & I've never found any in my area of the USA... but I have wondered if I could grow some.

From what I've heard, you can soak (overnight?) the dry marrowfat peas you buy in the packets in UK supermarkets and grow them in your garden, then instead of picking them when they mature, you let the pods dry out thoroughly in the garden before harvesting the peas.

I'm going to look for the packaged dry marrowfat peas next time I visit back home and see if this works.

I have bought what looked like them, but they probably aren't, they are called 'sweet peas'....will try a tin tonight and report back

The are nothing like Marrowfat peas.

My aunt used to use dried peas years ago...steep peas she called them. I hated them. :thumbdown:

Rather randomly I saw some yesterday while out grocery shopping in the Jamaican/Caribbean section of our local ethnic supermarket

I had to Google what they are! Found they are used to make mushy peas, which were anathema to my family -- but they are also used for Wasabi peas, a crunchy snack that I love!

Stop Press....how random....I went into town today with wife and MIL whom has just arrived. Went into a really great Kitchen based shop and they had a British food area including amongst other things - Batchelors Mushy Peas & Marrowfats at $1.50 !!!! Get In.

They also stock Branston Pickle, Picallily, tea, cadburys fingers, McVities digestives and loads more, all in a very fancy kitchenware shop.....gotta love Fort Collins, Colorado.
