Made it to Rochester: Experiences of a new immigrant

Re: Made it to Rochester: Experiences of a new immigrant
Just got my new Discover in the post - $1200 limit.
My temp job is going well - I have only been here a week and they already want to make me permanent and are planning to offer me a minimum $36,000 (although I am going to try and haggle it up to $36,500, every little helps) ... It is the same place where I am applying for the Press Officer job, which I am still in contention for, but my boss at the temp job says they don't mind that I could possibly leave them even after the offer, because I have to do what is right for me, which is jolly good of them. The temp job is a fairly easy admin style job, and my co-workers are nice, so it is a good backup in case the other job doesn't get offered (and I get free food! yum!)
Moving out/escaping the ghetto is looking more likely .... fingers crossed

Re: Made it to Rochester: Experiences of a new immigrant
Hello! Already touched base on the "Brits in Rochester" meetup thread, but wanted to say Hi here as well.
I've been in the Rochester area since May 2003. Well, I say "the Rochester area", we're based in Palmyra, about 20 miles east along Monroe Ave/Rt31.
As I'm sure you're already seeing, Rochester isn't a bad city to be based in. Some areas are sketchy as anything, but not much worse than a lot of other cities.
Their are a couple of pretty good English pubs in the area, which makes things worthwhile, and the International sections at Wegman's are an invaluable part of life.

Nailed It!
Been offered (and accepted) the job on a permanent capacity at $36,500 with generous benefits.
Finally feel like I can start 'enjoying' my time in the US.
As always I appreciate the friendship and camraderie of my fellow BritishExpats on here Thank you for your support, advice and humour during the recent darker times.
