This company has found what you yourself may or may not be able to find. 50 States, thousands of Counties & cities etc.
Do you have any clue, as to who or where your long lost relative, may have lived. From that you may be able to go online & find them. Or as Ray, said, negotiate the fee. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY UP FRONT. Do a BBB on the company, do a Google search.

You need some clue, a surname, a last known location. Otherwise at best you can only do a google/yahoo search of your family names ie married names or nee etc. But without some clue, as who it maybe, whoops, that gotcha by the short & c's. Maybe the estate, is even in another country.

Update:

My father has been on the phone to various relatives, some have already signed up to recieve their share, we now know who the deceased person is, or rather where he fits in the family tree as he is a very distant relative. He was living in England at the time of his death so I don't know if there is an easy way to find out about his estate if we have his name and place of death.

If the money is only a small amount it may cost more in lawyers fees to try and pursue it ourselves than it would cost to get it via this company, I'll probably just sign the papers when I get back.

If the estate has been probated and you have the name then all you have to do is contact the County public records office, there is a form to fill in and then you will get a copy of the will and know what law firm is dealing with the estate. Then contact the Solicitors directly. And in your case middle man gets squat,

My mom was contacted in a similar way a few years ago - she ended up inheriting £60k from her uncle she had never met, without paying the soliciters that had contacted her the 30% they had asked for.

I suggest you look up on the Treasury website to see if you can find the details on there - they list anyone who has died without a will. The treasury will try to find rellies and then after a certain amount of time the Gvt takes the dosh!

This was the site we used to find my Great Uncle.

My mum then instructed local solicitors to do the work and it cost her about £4k!

Either way you will get money you were not expecting!

Enjoy!!

Thanks so much for all these links, they are very helpful indeed. :)
I am away tommorow for 3 weeks but will pass on the information to my dad to see if he can find anything else out.
