There should be a handle on a string hanging from the door mechanism. If you pull on it you disconnect the door from the opener, then the door can be opened manually. There should be a handle near the floor either in the middle or one at each corner, and the spring means it doesn't actually take much effort to lift - though Mrs Lansbury might disagree.

That has happened on a couple occasions to us, not a house but the building has a garage, no power no door opening, missed/was late to work a few times because of the garage door not working.

Heck the power is back. A transformer on a local power pole blows occasionally and the power to 18 houses goes off. Took an hour to fix and Mrs L is free. Thought the credit card might be safe a bit longer.

Interestingly enough my latest garage door opener (previous opener gave up after 20 years) has a built in battery pack for moments like these.
