Yeah, I heard that the AMX (1968-70) was a great car, ahead of the field, but that was before AMC was affected by Gremlins!

I had a Gremlin. And a Pacer. And an AMC Hornet wagon.

Those old Eagle 4X4s were little beasts!

Jag superbowl commercial:

"Jaguar is preparing to tout the brand's British roots in a new advertising campaign called "British Villains" that will be its largest ever and include its first Super Bowl commercial.

The campaign will be used to launch the new F-Type coupe that debuts at the Los Angeles auto show later this month and goes on sale in April. The 30-second Super Bowl commercial will run during the second half of next year's event on Feb. 2.

I saw a little red MG yesterday, appeared to be a 1960's one. Funnily enough it was just around the corner from where I saw the Austin Princess VDP earlier in the year, and on the road in front of the Lowes where I saw the 2CV a few weeks ago.

I was surprised to see parked outside Lowes a few days ago, a red TR7. It wasn't in the best shape, and the paint was badly oxidized.

It's not the first TR7 I've seen here, but I've never seen a TR8 in the US, although I had previously heard that the TR8 was developed for the US market, with the ;3.5 litre Rover V8, as opposed to the 2 litre 4 cylinder in the TR7.
i bought a green TR8 convertible in 1980 or early 1981 (a bit over $12,000 at the time, about the same as a Cadillac). Perhaps two months later the factory stopped making them. I kept it for about 8 years. In order to maintain it I had to drive it down to Washington DC where a shop had parts and the knowledge.

The Rover V8 was actually a Buick V8 that dated back to about 1961. Rover had bought the rights and the tools to the engine. It was stout and the car was fast, solid, practical, cornered well and caused folks to ask lots of questions about it. I eventually sold it to another attorney who kept it a couple of years and then sold it to someone else in Ontario. Unfortunately, unlike the TR6 or the MGs, the TR8 never appreciated in value. I suppose the reason might have been that it didn't have the classic look of a sports car, unlike the Mazda. But I liked it.

You barely scratched the surface.

Thanks for that, Colonel. I confess I didn't plow through the 63 pages of the thread and thus missed your info. But I did own the car for a long time and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a pity the company was run into the ground by bad management and the unions. The TR8 had the potential to become a pocket Corvette. Although, I suppose the Z car tried that route and went nowhere.

If you had ploughed through all 63 pages you wouldn't have found it anyway, lol: ....... because it was in a separate thread, a short one, about a Land Rover.
