So I have always loved Jags especially the old ones but of course the price has always been out of the question for us to own one.

Today we were given as a gift a 2003 x-type with less than 60,000 miles and in excellent condition and it is race car green. There are a few cosmetic fixes needed, probably a new headliner but that is something M can do. I am so chuffed, yeah it's old but I just never thought I would own one. I don't drool over cars too much seeing as we spend more time on bikes and trikes but Jaguars have always seemed special to me.

We're just pulling your leg There are many worse things than to have a car designed by Ford - the first Aston Martin V12 was a design based on two Ford V6's cast into one engine block. The Mustang from 1993-2004 had more than a bit in common with the Jag XK8 and the Aston Martin DB7 too. What they shared did not include the price.

It will be a lot cheaper to repair than a V12 Jag I remember a few years ago a Marelli fuel injection harness was around $1500

Can't believe I want to take a trip to look at a 1999 XK8 droptop for under $9k! It looks good in the pics, but am I leaving myself open to a heap of trouble???

What did the SN-95's have in common with the DB7? The 2 V6's I believe you are talking about were Jaguar engines (although granted, based on the Ford Duratec engine) but I don't think the Mustang ever used the Duratec engine. I do agree with your first line though, there are much much worse things than to have a car designed by Ford.

"Am I ...?" Why are you unsure?

As an additional vehicle for occasional use, that sounds like a great deal - but be prepared to put a few thousand bucks into to it for repairs from time to time, or sell it for peanuts.

I think you're right about the engines, but I thought I had read that parts of the floor pan and frame were of related design across all three models. But it looks like I was wrong because I just found an article that said both the XK8 and DB7 were based on an updated XJS floorpan.

I always think of your mustang to be quite small in length. I'm sure it's just an optical illusion. It seemed to grow quite a bit in length in 2005. Again, I picture the xk8 and DB7 to be fairly long, again maybe just an optical illusion.

The XK8 is 4.4" longer than the 2002 Mustang (183"), and with a wheelbase 0.6" longer.

FWIW the 2002 Mustang is 14" shorter than the the shorter of the (full size) 2017 Range Rovers, and 6.5" shorter than our 2003 Accord.

In other words, the Mustang is not a small car.

Yeah I assumed not. Mine is long. I didn't think Ford would drastically increase the length of the car between models. As I say, it's an optical illusion, or at least to me.

You can pick up a used one cheap in the UK. Not many buyers. Use too much petrol in a country where petrol prices are very high
