They did quite a nice job of taking a Ford Falcon chassis and making it look like that. Love the 'tangs from 64 to 68. The 69 I had, with all of it's problems, made me sour on that year.

Remember those "See the U.S.A." commercials with Dinah very well. Always wondered if they would ever bring it back. One of the all time best advertising songs/slogans.

Of course I used to change it to: See the U.S.A. in your Ford today

I'm sure a lot of you have already read this, but I've just spent some time reading this article where a journalist from Edmonds goes under cover as a car salesman. It's quite an eye opener. It is quite a long article, but definitely worth a read.

Decided I'm going to buy a used truck for about $5000, any particular ones I should be looking for or ones to avoid?
It will purely be for lugging 'stuff' around in the back....

Ford seems to be the popular choice, at least for the past 40 years or so.

Dodge Ram has a poor reputation for reliability, especially transmission failures. They may have got better in recent years, but in the $5,000 range, you're looking at vehicles from a time when their reputation was pretty bad.

If it is entirely for lugging stuff around, then a standard cab would be cheapest, but an extended cab, with small rear seats has room to secure some stuff under lock and key, and out of the weather.

Personalty I'd look for a Ford, but GMC/Chevy are OK too.

Are you you looking for "full size" (F150/1500), or would one of the smaller ones do as well (Ranger/ S10). In the smaller size you might find a Mazda, which is a rebadged Ford Ranger.

Agreed.

Full size I would look for a Ford or a Chevy in that price range.

If you go smaller, I had a Mazda B3000 (Ford Ranger) which I ran for a couple of years and that was a great little truck.

My B3000...

I was "lucky" enough to be in that age group. Actually, just slightly too young for the Capri cos I wouldn't have afforded the insurance on it.

This was as close as I got...

Subsequently destroyed after a farm gate, a large grassy bank and a tree all jumped out and mugged it on the way home from the pub. That would have been 1978ish I think, car was a '74

Ford over Chevy any day. Agreed the B3000 and equivilant Ranger are more than serviceable.
