They were basically stretched LTD's, and those held up well as police cruisers. They can last for a while with good maintenance.

I won't argue against their reliability. Know them well. Actually would not hesitate to own one that old if it was well taken care of. It would be a plus and a minus in traffic here. The plus, it can take a good hit, which happens often here. The minus, being a tank to be pushing around in the tight quarters of traffic here.

If they have been taken care of, they are good. If not, pity the poor bugger who buys an old one.
I've seen 8 year old ones need almost $2000 in repairs to pass fitness inspection. All depends on whether the original owner was too cheap to maintain it properly. Like anything else, I suppose, just more costly if that is the case.

Agreed, and the 85 was ragged out (but nice interior/no rust). I tried to rebuild it. It was a hard lesson learned, I'll never try to bring a wornout car back again. (Probably). The 99 in question sounds nice though.

There are worn out cars you can bring back without breaking the bank, or your back, but they fall in a different class.

NOS parts for this platform are readily available and dirt cheap, even for quality, and in general they are 'easy' ( ) to work on. Except for the death knell - it did need a new half roof and the cost put it out of consideration. If I would've known that up front I wouldn't have bought it. So yeah it ended up being money, but not for repairs.

I'm in the process of doing something similar with my S-10, complete suspension with new control arm bushings, steering, sensors, clutch, seals, a/c system, body mounts, etc. The parts are more expensive than the panthers but as there's no real options there isn't as much to rebuild

For the record, I drove it 3 years and it only left me stranded once. You might get a chuckle - I sold it to a friends brother in WV So it ended up a hillbilly cruiser lol.

I just heard a couple months ago he hit a telephone pole with it. Knocked the pole down, still drove home.

Yeah. I rushed out to my driveway to count all of mine. The amount I currently have is zero.

No, I missed it. That said, it doesn't seem to have the super car aura I'd expect. If asked to guess based on its appearance I'd have said it was a Lotus: a replacement for, or step up from the Elise/Exige. The styling is reminiscent of a McDonald's Happy Mealâ„¢ toy.

Nutek, your life is sh*t without the P1. Drop whatever you're doing and place your order now!

Pulaski I kinda understand, it sure isn't for everyone, but at least it's not as generic looking as many McLarens. Expensive! Wonder what Bugattis are selling for nowadays? Me, I'd rather have a Phantom.
