Sad today. The new Mustang GT500 details were released. It would seem it’s only available as an automatic : (. I know auto’s are faster, and this car is built for speed, but a big chunk of these are gonna be driven on the road by enthusiasts. I’m pretty sure most of them would prefer a manual. The day is definitely coming! Thankfully, I’ll still have my bike!

My wife's Focus has a DCT and it is a complete and utter bag of shite, at least Ford pay us every time we take it in for free repair work! She's hoping they'll get peed off with it and fit a manual box....

Any of you familiar with the Ford TDV6 Duratorq diesel, the 2.7L V6 offered on Discovery and Range Rover . Internal factory codename was Lion.
Is it a good engine? Or an engine to avoid?
The 2.7L has been succeeded by the 3.0L which is based on the 2.7L . How does the 2.7L compare to the 3.0L on fuel economy?
Is the 2.7L a complicated engine ?
The Ford F150 now offers the 3.0L V6 engine as an option. Same engine as available on Jaguar and LandRover vehicles, and Peugeot/Citroen

The early VW/Audi "DSG" boxes seemed to have a lot of issues. My 2011 7sp Audi DSG is a a danger at roundabouts sometimes with it's dwell or "hesitancy" issues (only 65K miles on the clock).

My wifes has a +/- on the side of the shifter that can function as a gear shift when in that mode... struggling to understand why anyone would want to do that on a family sedan, but whatever!

Thats fine for many people. Bores the living **** outta me. If you use your car for track days, or you solely take enjoyment from winning traffic light grand prix’s, automatic boxes are superior. What the hell, they are better in just about every scenario. But only operating a go and stop peddle bore the life out of me. I enjoy taking my car up in the twisties at the weekend. I enjoy operating 3 peddles. I enjoy the act of changing gear. Probably a bit weird, but I know I’m certainly not alone, even in this forum. Ford have said they would offer a manual box in the GT500 if the demand is there. I’ll likely never own one, but hopefully I’ll be able to keep driving a stick for a while longer.

Unfortunately the new Supra won't have a manual option, so I presume that the new Z4 won't either.

My other was a Dodge Caliber. That got totaled when some (other) idiot ran a red light.
Never had any problems with the Caliber. The most obvious trait is the lack of any gear change. When you take off, the engine revs up high and stays there until you get up to speed and then drops back down again. To get any performance from it you have to floor it but then it does go well.
My daughter currently drives a 2008 Nissan Sentra with CVT. A couple of times it has just quit working and refused to go into gear. Resetting by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes fixed it. Other than that, it's been fine and now has about 150k miles on it.

I discovered a couple of years ago while car shopping that the auto Accord has a CVT transmission, and learned a few weeks ago that the Lexus ES comes with a CVT too, so if Toyota is putting them in their premium models there can't be much wrong with either the smooth/noise/comfort of a CVT, or its reliability.
