Any of you catch the story of the DB5 that got mashed in a crash yesterday?

"The police said it was a total write-off" ....... I am not sure the police are not qualified to determine whether a car worth at least high six-figures is written-off, or not.

I'm despairing at the youth of today. "Like Daniel Craig's car in Skyfall"? Yes I do actually like Craig's Bond, it is actually closer to the books but please, the car is iconic with Sean Connery at the wheel.

The repair cost is less than the repaired value.

Yeah, I know what it means, but old cars are invariably money pits, whether a DB5 or a '72 MG rusting in a garage.

I expect there is someone out there who wants an original DB5 badly enough to sink the money into rebuilding that wreck in the same way that ratty old MGs and Triumphs often find a buyer.

We just had the ignition cassette on the car replaced...it apparently had cracked between a couple of cylinders and was the cause of our intermittent CEL. That wasn't cheap. How does that even happen?

The worrying thing was also replacing oil pressure sensor that had died, but also had a crack. It caused a slow oil leak through the crack but as the sensor was dead, didn't pop up a error message for some reason. Didnt' notice the leak as it dribbled onto the muffler and burned off apparently, when on a hill. That would have sucked on the road trip.

Got the rear brakes done, new sparks while the cassette was off, fixed sensor on headlight so warning won't come on for a out light and now the car is good for the summer shenanigans.

Got 5 miles per gallon better on thr drive back from Maine.

Already have something on the list for the next service though :/

How anyone survives without Prime baffles me in any case.

Could work. Amazon don't sell cars (yet), so no suppliers to piss off.

I can't understand it either, having Amazon has made total sense to me for the past, oh, well, hour and a half.

And in a remarkable touch of irony, the BBC is running the story as one of their lead stories on the UK news page, thereby giving free publicity to the competing business that has just snapped up what used to be one of the BBC's biggest revenue generators!

I always knew that would turn out to be money well spent

I loved this bit from May: "We have become part of the new age of smart TV. Ironic, isn't it?"

They are touting Jensen Button now to go alongside Chris Evans.

I don't see him in a Top Gear-style role, but I DO think he would make a great TV host for some sort of show.

Out on the road trip, saw loads of old classic and muscle cars rotting away in various yards, all for sale for very cheap out in the midwest, Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota area.

Quite sad to see.
