Re: learning a new lingo !!
I had one where I went to parents night for one our firstborn in kindergarten. I spoke to the teacher about a note she had sent home. The note pointed out that my daughter didn't know her address. I told her that if she had asked my daughter where she lived, she would have told her.

My boss was temporarily thrown off-balance after someone said that "things have gone tits-up" during a meeting with the UK. She's very used to British phrases - it was just the first time she'd heard that and couldn't believe you could say something like that in a serious business meeting. |

Re: learning a new lingo !!
LOL, many of us have been there. First time was when my son was little and was giving him a birthday party with party favours in a basket. One of the mums asked me what they were and I said, "decorated rubbers".
She later asked why we called them rubbers instead of erasers. Having recovered from laughing I said because they are made of rubber and they rub things out. |

What made me pee laughing when I heard this is the name of a town in pa called "gobblers knob". I told my husband can you imagine sending home a letter with that address. eeek!

Re: learning a new lingo !!
I have a friend who came here from a non-English speaking country. He picked up a lot of American slang from his boss. So, one day he's sharing a laugh with a bunch of women at church and finishes up with, "Don't worry - just pimping you!"
