Las Vegas
 

I am headed to Vegas for the first time on Saturday and just wondered if anyone had any advice on getting around, good things to see...aside from the obvious things of drinking and gambling which are already on the agenda!
I heard that there are places where you can buy half price tickets for shows that are playing that day, anyone used one of these before?

I just got back from Vegas a couple of weeks ago. I love the place!

Where are you staying?

If you're there long enough, definitely consider a renting a car and having a side trip to Death Valley...and Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire. If it's your first time, you'll probably find enough to entertain you on the strip though...

The half price ticket place you're talking about are located in the fashion show mall, one at the south end of the strip near MGM Grand and another one somewhere else...can't quite remember.

There's been a few threads on where to stay and what to do in Vegas...try the search option located at the top of the page...I'm sure you'll find some info in there.

Edit: I've just tried it and there are loads of threads. This is what I did: Go to advance search. On the left hand side....Key Word: Vegas. Search Title Only. On the right hand side...Search forums: USA.

I am staying in the MGM Grand, so it sounds like I pretty close to the half price ticket place.
We were thinking of renting a car, but only going to be there for two nights so I imagine that we will have plenty to do.
Since you have been there recently, any shows you can recommend?

Thanks for the advance search option. I did try the search choice before posting, although Vegas is mentioned so frequently relating to Immigration applications etc...that the list seemed to be endless. Going to try that link you provided now

Not really in to shows, but I did want to see Blue Man Group at the Venetian...never got round to it though, but everyone recommends it.

Watch the Bellagio fountains, go up the faux Eiffell tower at the Paris. Try and eat the buffet at Planet Hollywood (formerly the Aladdin) and Wynn...expensive, but worth it.

a colleague of mine went to see the cirque du solie show when he was there. He said the tickets were expensive but it was the best thing he had ever seen and really well worth it.

Wanted to try the Paris buffet, but the lines were ridiculous and I was too hungry to be arseing around with that!

Hate the place. and it could well be freezing at this time of the year, snow and all. Was when I was there between Christmas and New Year 4 yrs ago.

Take it for what it is.. brash and unashamedly vulgar. Blackpool on steroids. Expect to part with cash, put on weight and get kippered by all the smokers in the casino and you will have a great time.

Weather is really cold at the moment, but not expecting to spend too much time outdoors to be honest!!! Only time we will see daylight will probably be when walking from one hotel to the next by the sound of things
