Kettles never last

I am getting tired of replacing electric kettles. Does anyone else have this issue. Hardly get a year out of them, the present one is much shorter than a year and it has just gone.

I am wondering if it is shoddy workmanship or an electrical problem at my end. Though everything else works fine, toaster is the only other thing with a heating element on the same outlet, but no problems with it.

I am unsure whether to go with cheap as a replacement, viewing it as a short term deal. I'd spend a lot if I thought it was a solution, but dont want to spend big and have that one go to.

We have seen a similar pattern, but usually get about 18 months out of one before it gives up the ghost. We just get whatever Mrs L finds at a good price, can't say we have found an expensive one lasts that much longer.

We have recently replaced ours. The previous one lasted about 6 years and was reasonably cheap.

I've given up on kettles and now brew my tea in the Keurig. Yes, I know it is not 'real tea' but it is convenient and works every time. I have a cup of Earl Grey every day at 5pm after feeding the horses. It is a bit of a ritual.

In England I used to drink tea in the morning noon and night. In the 10 years I have lived here I've slowly migrated my morning drinks to coffee :o

Maybe it's just bad electrics?

We have a Hamilton Beach kettle, which I think I picked up at HEB, our local grocery store. It's worked fine for 4 years.

It's this one. I don't think it cost us $45, though.

Same issue here, I think we're on our 3rd and it's not quite been 4 years since we arrived here.

same problem here. If we get 18 months from a kettle we are lucky.

We have a stove-top kettle on our induction stove. It will heat as little as a cup of water and is much faster than an electric kettle. While the technology is entirely different, it is comparable to a microwave - all the energy goes into the kettle/pan and its contents, and virtually none escapes into the room, which is a nice bonus in summer.

I'm wondering if a surge protector might help. Oh for plugs with a fuse. Also considering going for a singing kettle for the stove.

I bought a kettle in Walmart eight years ago. The brand name is Elite. Still going strong

I doubt it, I assume it is damage (micro-cracks that grow, so eventually the arcing current burns it out) to the heater coil in the element, as they can be quite brittle.

Buy one from Canada...I've had mine for 5 years.

1 year sounds about right...but at least they don't cost an arm and a leg now. When we first moved to the US in 1996 I only found one store selling them...they were almost $100 each, :eek:

Same here. Have replaced numerous electric kettles over the past few years.
