But the prosecuting and defending lawyers would be unable to make their cases, due to fear that the DJs might commit suicide/ the lawyers themselves accused of bullying!
The whole argument is preposterous- most humour is based on cruelty of some kind. The litigations would never stop. Think how many comics would have to be imprisoned.

We agree on this, broadly, I think, but I am not so quick to condemn those who enjoy the humour.

Seems to be a lot of mixed opinion.
IMHO, the object of the prank was not really to gain confidential medical information, more to see how far they could get before they got caught out. Something like the 'thrill of the chase', just having some fun with bad accents and seeing what they could get away with.
Having heard the recording, it sounds as if they were completely astounded that they not only spoke to the nurse directly, but were also given information. i really don't believe they ever expected to get that far.
But having obtained this confidential information, were they wrong to broadcast it?
I believe they were, they could have edited the recording to focus on their accents and the prank itself, not the information obtained.
The nurse who is now deceased did not, from what I can discern, do anything wrong. She was asked to forward a call, and she did that.
It was the second nurse who was at fault, freely giving out info that she had no right to divulge.
If I was a patient in a UK hospital, I would not want then talking about me, I would want them to talk TO me, and ask my wishes regarding sharing information.
that is the very minimum that confidentiality laws require.
The fact that the patient in this instance was a public figure should have made them even more cautious.
The second nurse seems very quiet on this matter.
But I am sure that Keith Vaz will do enough pointless yapping to cover her silence.
