What is the world coming to?

Apparently Jelly Babies and Crunchy bars are not being allowed in because the FDA is having a nutty.

Any idea what is behind this?

Are the Jelly Babies threatening to turn in to UN soldiers and invade? Do Crunchy bars spread socialism?

They've probably got some unapproved additive or colouring in them.

I know for the longest time, red Smarties were banned here because the colouring used was not approved by the FDA!


BTW, Amazon has Gustav's Jelly Babies. Nowhere near as good as Bassetts, but they're only $16 for 6.6 pounds!!!

I would have thought Crunchies would be welcomed here with open arms. They would give a huge boost to the dentistry business.

well US butter makers aren't allowed to use the same enzymes in butter making that we use (hence why butter here is tasteless) because the enzyme are deemed dangerous or some such guff.

Wegmans was selling crunchies last time I went though. I may now have to buy a stash.

On a similar theme, a guy at Cost Plus told me that Kraft (now owners of Cadburys) are cracking down on "real" - i.e. not the shit made by Hershey's - Cadburys products from being imported and sold in the US. Not sure of the veracity of this, but the two Cost Plus stores I've been to recently had no real Cadburys for sale. They did have Crunchies though And my local Mid Eastern grocery still has Cadburys with Arabic writing for sale.

Tell the FDA that we Brits have been eating Jelly Babies and Crunchies for years and we are still ok. They probably want to try and replace them with some foul tasting or no taste crap from a US "candy" maker. Next time anyone is in the UK, fill the suitcases with said sweets, as if you didn't do that already.

Get with the program...CB posted the recipe sometime ago.

Another plus for being in Toronto...I can get just about anything Cadbury's make. My favourite at the moment is Cadbury's Cashew and Coconut bars.
