Agreed, I went to a traditional Chinese wedding in Taiwan a few weeks back. There was a 15 course dinner, one mouthful to each course. One of them was fried Sea Cucumber in a disgusting brown sauce. I declined but it was funny to see my hosts trying to catch the slippery buggers with their chopsticks. BTW they looked like little dog turds. Yuck!

Dog turds are more appealing than cucumber (although I wouldn't eat either).
You do know that sea cucumber (however minging) is not a type of cucumber?

Cucumbers have to have the ends cut off and then rubbed against the rest of it to draw the bitterness out.

I've not tried them together, but I love pickled beets....we had them at least once a week when I was growing up (homemade and store bought).
