I have a sports injury but instead of getting it treated straight away, I'm trying to see if I can self diagnose and treat it myself. Last time I went to the Dr for a sports injury it set me back several grand for treatment (PT, chiro, scans etc etc) as they insisted I got treated twice a week (I put a stop to that as soon as it started to get a little better).

I noticed the opposite when I moved here. I used to cough and splutter from one cold to another in the UK, whereas here I rarely get more than one or two mild ones each year now. I put it down to not travelling on poorly ventilated commuter trains and the Tube.

How did you travel to work? .... On the Tube?

No by car, I was fortunate enough to have a central area parking pass. I could park in the terminal 2 short term car park for free (well free to me).

I had an IT Band injury after a fall, but the symptoms didn't show up until more than 6 months later, so I didn't associate the two. My doctor sent me to PT as well. I was supposed to go three times a week at $20 per visit (co-pay). I went twice a week for a couple of weeks, and then once a week for another couple of weeks. Once I realized that yes, this treatment is slowly working, I stopped going and just did the same PT exercises at home. I already have my own massage therapist so I called her to do the leg massages, rather than in "public" at the crowded PT office. Once in a while the IT Band issue flares up, but now I know what to do to fix it.

When I first moved here (Alaska) I was sooo ill for the whole time I lived there (5 years). The gastro bugs which I hadn't has since childhood struck frequently. Then five years in NY, healthy and fine. 12 years in Maine and I get hit with the gastro/flu/strep once a year. I'm a teacher but I was in NY too.

I don't recall an increase in frequency of getting sick, but my first cold in the US hit me pretty hard

I haven't been Ill in 9 years here, or for that matter, 9 years before that.
However, for the last 6 years, I have paid $50/ month odd for health insurance.

Much - used my spangly-new health insurance for the first time, so with the $98 prescription costing me $20 United Healthcare must already be wondering if I'm worth their while
