Great saying. I use it here all the time. Goes over their heads, even when I change it to Belt & Suspenders.

Never use the parking break unless I'm on a really steep incline. If it is a stick shift I always park it in gear.

Naughty. Hope no one bumps your car, while parking behind or in front. Must do the gears good. Of course thats why your supposed to use parking break & "P", in an automatic. You don't want your car bumped in park. Bad for the Transmission.

The US actually has pretty good road safety according to these stats:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_sa...of_the_problem

Ahead of Germany, but this is deaths per km.

Apparently, the German statistics took a big dive after East and West were reunited.

So, basically you're saying that its easy to pass the UK driving test if you're wearing a miniskirt? Can't say that I gave that a try.....guess it was just my driving the DSL person was rating.....

No, not yet, though you do occasionally hear of dogs/small children knocking it into gear whilst the driver nipped into a shop...

In that case why on earth do manufacturers make cars with handbrakes/parking brakes and why would you fail your test, in the UK anyway, if you didn't apply it?

There's just something reassuring to me about applying the handbrake whilst the car is stationary. When I park I apply the handbrake and keep the car either in first gear or reverse, depending on the incline of the road.

What I hate about park is, when you're on a slight hill and you stop the car, it lurches when you take your foot off the brake.

I have to make sure no one is getting out the car when I put it in park, otherwise the door will probably hit them .....

My husband does that all the time...don't know why he just doesn't take his foot off the brake as soon as its in park.

I still use the parking break out of habit......and my son does because he has a manual....it took me a while to get used to an automatic...

The thing that gets me...is people doing 28 miles an hour on route 28...thats the name of the road...not the speed limit which is 40...

They drive like the Devil in Ireland I should know, lololol, driving from Dublin to Cork is like the Monte Carlo rally. Irish roads are wonderfully narrow and twisty, lol
