Ignorant Yank comments on British Driving...

What the "F" is this tosser talking about? It all sounds like normal driving by people who were actually taught how to drive.
How I wish that the rednecks, bums, stiffs and blue rinses of Fort Myers had British driving lessons and exams. The county would be a safer place.

[FONT=Arial]Some say the best way to judge the character of a country is how it treats its most vulnerable populations-children, minorities, Vermont state employees, and the like. Others suggest that spectator sports offer a revealing glimpse into the cultural mindset, while still others insist that popular entertainments - movies, television, video games-are the best barometer of a people's collective psyche.
I say look at how they drive.

We have one place in Fort Myers, so far as I know, where a left on red is legal.
The Sheriff was on TV saying so some time ago - before he was Sheriff. I saw it on TV when he did his former regular community service special..

Have you ever heard of an automatic in park running away?
In Park, the transmission is locked solid. It cannot run away, unlike with an emergency brake where all sorts of things might fail.
I shall happily be proved wrong if anyone here can produce evidence of an automatic in PARK moving all by itself.

Only if you live on a hill in San Francisco. Here in FL you would wait a long time to find your car running away on a hill when the transmission lock failed.

Have you ever driven an automatic ?
You cannot get any automatic vehicle into Neutral from Park unless you have the ignition key inserted and your foot on the brake. It doesn't matter whether it is a Focus or an F-750, except that F-750s have no Park position., but then you would not know that either.
Tell me how that is accomplished by "some rumpty" when the keys are in your pocket and the vehicle is locked up.
I drive hundreds, maybe thousands, of different automatic vehicles every year. I never yet heard of an automatic left in PARK running away either all by itself or with assistance from someone who did not have the ignition key.

What if the Numpty never pushes the shifter all the way to park in the first place ??
How else would you explain the incident I outlined earlier where an automatic car moved out of its spot in a car park with the owner long gone.
EDIT: Oh, and you sell fords so its fair to say you know sweet fanny adams about cars

You cannot get the ignition key out unless you are in the PARK position.
To have a car run away you would have to
a) leave the key in the ignition,
b) leave the car turned off not in Park,
c) get out of the car after parking it on a slope with criteria a) and b) met.
Maybe it was on ice and just slid down the road.
p.s. I also sell Mitsubishi trucks and they don't do stupid shit when in PARK either.
If I were not so polite and it was not the day after my birthday I would tell you what I really think.
