I need "American Music"

Re: I need "American Music"
Couldn't be bothered to read thru the thread, but howabout:
"America" by Simon & Garfunkle
"California Dreaming" by Mommas & Poppas
"American Pie" by Don McLean
"Battle Hymn of the Republic" by the USMC Flower Arranging-by-Braille Society
If that's useless, try a medley of Frank Sinatra or Captain Sensible.

So I think they should have flown in yesterday. We need to hear what he played and their reaction now!

Re: I need "American Music"
I'd probably go for some blues / jazz / early rock classics:
1. Bo Diddley
2. Miles Davis circa "Kind of Blue"
3. Hank Williams Sr.
4. Bob Wills
5. Son House
6. Chuck Berry
7. Buddy Holly
If you want more of the classic sixties California vibe:
1. Beach Boys
2. Doors
3. Dead
4. Jefferson Airplane (note: not Starship)
5. Love
6. Byrds
7. Vintage Neil Young (I know he's Canadian, but c'mon)
If you want the "gritty northern cities rawk" vibe:
1. Stooges
2. Cheap Trick
3. Velvet Underground
4. Sonic Youth
5. Ramones
6. Television
7. Blondie
8. Replacements
If you want more of "current hipster white guy American roots music" vibe, go for:
1. Wilco
2. My Morning Jacket
3. Band of Horses
4. The Hold Steady
5. White Rabbits
6. Okkerville River
7. Spoon
8. White Stripes
If you want "classic funk", lay down some:
1. Parliament / Finkadelic
2. James Brown (of course)
3. Curtis Mayfield
4. Issac Hayes
5. The Meters
6. Sly and the Family Stone
If you want some classic soul
1. James Brown (again, of course)
2. Aretha Franklin
3. Marvin Gaye
4. Otis Redding
5. Al Green
maybe "classic rap" is your thing?
1. Run DMC
2. Eric B and Rakim
3. Afrika Bambaataa
4. Public Enemy
5. NWA
If you want "what do the kids these days listen to", refer elsewhere.

Re: I need "American Music"
Well - it's an old song about everybody wanting to get into the big great US of A.
Whoever wrote a song about coming to England?
I can imagine the first few lines if one were written today for today's immigrants ................
Across the seas and by whatever means,
they want to get to Great Britain.

Re: I need "American Music"
Pretty much anything sung by Judy Garland would fit the bill I would think.

Re: I need "American Music"
After further insisting from the wife, I didn't have either a WANKERS or a TOSSERS sign, and instead just took pictures of them coming from Terminal 5 at O'Hare. I also played Neil Diamond for the first and last time as it was the most fitting song and my wife also insisted. So it was Coming to America then I just played my Hendrix play list.
I listen to all kinds of music in the car from Arctic Monkeys, who I've know since they were doing small pub gigs up to classical music, and Johnny Cash in the middle, Red hot chili peppers and more. So I was driving yesterday and had my Jonny cash playlist on and that was the first comment they made about the music "fitting"
Thanks for all the suggestions it's been interesting.

Re: I need "American Music"
I love his old stuff and grew up listening to it but one of my all-time favorite CDs is American IV: The Man Comes Around. I just listened to it again yesterday while painting the guest room.
great video for "Hurt," http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o22eIJDtKho
