Default Hurricane Ophelia on Track to the UK/Ireland

Looks like the UK and Ireland are in for a tassel with a category 3 hurricane.

I remember that storm...we moved house a few months earlier. We had a river at the bottom of the garden and stood watching the river rise up the garden at an alarming rate. Fortunately it never got as far as the house.

They mentioned that. When it comes to hurricanes, I never think of them staying along the coast of Africa and heading north instead of going towards the Caribbean, the US or the Gulf of Mexico.

At least they have brick houses... who in the hell thought wood houses in Florida were a good idea?

And houses with shingle roofs in areas that have bush fires.

Son-in-law owned a brick three story apartment building on Route 10 in Gulfport, MS. Storm surge left only the foundation and a few scattered bricks.

It is my understanding from my sister when they were here during the last hurricane in Florida that most of the homes after a certain year were building with concrete blocks. Seems like in their gated community, the older homes are wood structures but hers which is only 3 years old is not.

They are cheap and quick to build.

There’s a reason they build concrete houses with concrete roofs in Bermuda.

I probably shouldn't but I've left out the names.

My old town in Scotland has it's own FB page. Currently, a newly arrived USC has asked what to expect from this hurricane and should she be worried. The answers are hilarious!

Given that our town experiences almost constant Autumnal weather regardless of the time of year, it will be much the same as normal but the bins might be flying up and down the street.

Just another day at the office we don't worry much about a windy day

Much the same as most other days, except the rain will a bit more sideways

I prob wouldnt put ny washing out that day. Other than that its business as normal

Prob find most Scots at the beach with their flip flops on

Double the pegs when you hang your washing out

Good laugh in the pub.lol.

I am heading for the ferry at 7am. Calmac (the ferry company) have warned about "disruptions" to afternoon sailings.

I have to go because this is a dialysis day for me. I have that done in Greenock.
