Re: Hurricane Irma
The tracking forecast has now moved to the west. The current track takes it just west of Miami putting Miami on the eastern (most damaging) side of the eye. It could well be as damaging as Andrew.

Re: Hurricane Irma
FWIW You probably need to go ahead and start your own thread now and stop trying to derail this one. I won't be joining you. As the storm gets closer and closer to landfall, we're really only going to be interested in hearing from the Florida people.

Re: Hurricane Irma
A little more wind shear about is good news too, saying it should hit as a 4 and weaken significantly. Reckon 80-100mph winds up near Tampa, I wouldn't want to be in a mobile home, but our concrete house should be just fine.
Good luck to those driving out and those facing the landfall. Be safe.

Re: Hurricane Irma
Katrina did not make landfall in New Orleans. Her first landfall after Florida was in Bay St. Louis, MS and the second landfall was in Sidell, LA on the LA/MS border. Yes, she had been downgraded by the time she made landfall and while the wind damage was felt all the up the State of MS to the city of Meridian (our home in Hattiesburg 90 minutes away lost its roof and all its trees with the exception of one magnolia). My son-in-law's real property (a brick apartment building across from the beach in Gulfport) was wiped clean with only the foundation left. It was all due to the storm surge from the Gulf. NOLA's principal damages were a result of the break in the levees and the amount of rainfall.

Fourth From our thoughts to Mother Nature's ear.
Limey, seriously, give a shout and we will find you shelter here in Hattiesburg, MS if needed.
