How can I be more green?

How can I be more green?
short one this-
"Should I ditch my old Toyota Corolla and buy a Prius? Hybrids get better mileage, but it takes energy to build a new car, right?
Right - but the green choice is still the Prius. Manufacturing accounts for approximately 10 percent of the energy consumed by an automobile during its life cycle. Gas burned by the engine makes up almost everything else. So if a 1993 Corolla gets 27.5 miles per gallon and a 2006 Prius gets 55 mpg, you should earn back the energy "investment" that went into making the hybrid in about four years. Additionally, by purchasing a Prius, you help tilt the economies of scale in favor of hybrids. Toyota's hybrid technology is still relatively expensive, but production costs will come down as more Priuses are sold. And the more Priuses that fill the roads, the more consumers will view them as a legitimate option for their next car, rather than just trendy eco-boxes for Hollywood do-gooders...."

So how green do you think you are over here? More so than back in blighty? Or don't you care?

Re: How can I be more green?
I was definitely 'greener' back in England. I recycled everything because the facilities were just down the road, I threw one 'Sainsburys size' bag of rubbish out a week, the rest was recycled. I drove a car that got 25MPG (Chrysler Sebring LSI 2.7l V6 Convertible).
Here, I have a truck (11/12MPG), I feel safer with my son in there, compared to a car. In England I was happy having a car & driving him around in that, as all the other vehicles on the road were about the same size, plus the driving standards are better, so less accidents.
I throw about a 'Walmart size' bag of trash out everyday, as I have no idea where the local recycling place is.

In some ways I'm more green over here.
I try & recycle most things, glass, plastic, metal, cardboard etc.
At my local Publix you can even recycle styrofoam!
Yet on the other hand, I run AC in my house from April till October, whereas back home I could get away with opening the windows.

We are in the process of buying a Prius and think that in the long run we will save approx $10 a month all told. They are an ugly vehicle put the interior is great, very much like driving (flying!) a spaceship I would think . We currently have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited which we absolutely LOVE! but we need to start economizing and this is the way to go. And yes, the thought of helping the enviroment with less pollution is a great incentive.

Oh to answer you're primary question, I recycle everything! We have a recycle pick up at my house once a week and I am very careful when I throw things into the regular rubbish. I have tubs out in my garage for seperated recycle, all we have to do is open the door from the kitchen to the garage and throw whatever it is into the correct tub, it takes no effort what so ever and I feel great about doing my part for the enviroment.

It can't be easy being without job for so long. It would drive many mental. It is my greatest fear, not having something to occupy my mind. So I think we have to cut Bob some slack. Also, it's "mod's day". Slap on the back for Bob - one of BE's finest.
