Every time I hear the place name Waco, it reminds me of driving through there the day before they had that cat' 5 tornado go through, the weather was pretty bad when we drove through, I remember stopping at a fast food place and sitting in the car park to eat, the rain was coming down so fast, that we had to move the car because the car park started to get flooded!

Agreed. I have been there a number of times and had a blast but I wouldn't want to live there. The humidity would kill me.

So, is that shit or not shit?

Ummm ok. How about a who loves sprouts poll?

Eta: We could also run a 'how wonderful is San Diego or not' poll. That seems to be a popular subject at the moment.

It depends on what your like and what you like. If you like affordability and stability it's not shit. If you like gorgeous and expensive it's shit. If you're a motivated person - Texas is a good place to get ahead.

I think Leslie pretty much said it all...it does help to be in nice surroundings and have friendly people around you, but isn't any place going to be pretty much what you make of it? And I have found in almost every place we have been too here, that if you drive any direction for a few miles, you can usually find yourself in much nicer/worse areas

I have been here in Houston for twelve years ,
I really don't like it as a place .I have good friends and a good job and a very good standard of living but I miss

People on the street meeting people
shopping outdoors
good pubs
going for walks
I hate the heat lucky I go back to Scotland June and July
The traffic is so bad and it takes ages to go anywhere ,I'm in the clearlake area and going downtown takes ages.
I hate the the speedind tickets
I sometimes feel all I do is go to work and then pulll my car into the garage ,
I love my friends but I am fed up with backyard parties

Texas is an Ok state but I feel at times that I can never get out of Houston ,

This is a fairly close run thing - the suspense is killing me.

In summary:

Shit: 15 votes so far

Not shit: 11 votes

I can't wait to see how this turns out. What will happen if Houston does, indeed, turn out to be shit? I foresee increased economic problems, the mayor resigning his office, airlines canceling flights to the city, rising crime.

One thing's for certain, and that's the Houston Tourist Board's going to have some real big shit on their hands....

If you listen to some Houstonians, it's all the fault of the Katrina evacuees.

iona, I can relate to the "all I ever do is go to work and then pull into my driveway" issue, but that's pretty endemic to the US. Long hours and a long commute are unfortunately a way of life.
