A guy that had a garage tile manufacturing company sold the business but kept a large inventory he was selling on Craigslist. He is in Chattanooga and I have bought three lots of snap together tie over past two years. Just bought new for my garage center section. Goes down quickley and looks great.

I thought my floor tile projects were history until the laminate flooring I put in the gazebo failed due to too much water being blown in during heavy rain. I still have my tile tools including a $40 HF tile saw so I am installing ceramic tile from Lowe’s. Bought enough tile for $300. Got a good start but been too cold lately.

That looks nice, and I'm sure it will do better outdoors than laminate. I look forward to seeing the completed project.

I should post pictures of my current "big project", laying laminate indoors. We chose a dark stained product, but I am still in the demolition phase, removing carpet, tackstrip, nails and staples. Also we're going to paint the ceilings which are showing their age, and it seems like a good time to take care of that while there is no flooring to risk dripping paint onto.

Thanks. Would like to see your project as it progresses. I like laminate floors and my house has three rooms of it. I bought some pergo brand at Lowe’s when building my house and it’s very durable and extremely scratch resistant. We have dogs and cats and the floor is not scratched at all unlike some oak hardwood in my previous house. I saw sparks fly as I was cutting to install using a miter saw with carbide blade.

Thx for the tip - I should get one of those!

This project is in a rental house (which I have never admitted to having before on BE, though I'm sure some people may have guessed ), so Pergo's reputation for being hard-wearing was definitely part of our decision in choosing it for this project.

That said, I installed 1,200sqft of ¾" "tropical cherry", which isn't cherry at all, but is a seriously hard tropical hardwood, in another rental around 17 years ago. Aside from a deep scratch in a small bedroom, where the movers for the current tenants dropped a metal filing cabinet, the floor is still in very good condition, even though many people thought we were crazy putting high quality hardwood flooring in a rental. .... The same house has granite counters in the kitchen! 😄

With the price increases for all housing in the last few years owning rental property has probably paid off well especially if you do your own maintenance.

Yes, but I always knew it would in the medium term. The jump in house prices, and rents, 3-6 years ago, was an unexpected bonus, however the economics of most of my houses would be a lot less attractive if I didn't do most of the work myself. I imagine that between occasional service calls to plumbers, electricians, and sundry handymen, I would easily hand over half my gross profit to tradesmen if I didn't do the work myself.

The decision to install granite counters in that one house was easy enough though, as an incoming tenant specifically requested it and paid increased rent sufficient to have paid for the entire cost by the time they moved out just two years later! 😁

Yesterday I decided to do something to clean up our cluttered dresser. I made this shelf and installed in wife’s closet.

It didn’t solve all the clutter but helped. It was only a half day project.

It never works! The more storage space you have, the more 'stuff' gets bought! We had a massive 4 bedroom house (for 2 of us) a while back, and my partner just kept buying clothes and 'accessories' until all the closets in all the rooms were overflowing. Now we are in a small 2 bedroom condo, and we got rid of a ton of stuff during the move. But slowly, every nook-and-cranny is getting filled! If I ask 'why did you buy that ...' I get yelled at so I just keep quiet!

That’s definitely true. I have built two storage additions on my garage and now both full. I look at them and wonder were I kept all that stuff previously. Someday I plan to do a massive cleanup and trip to the dump, that’s the plan anyway.

In my case that’s a big factor.
