Hello from Nashville TN
Hello Everyone! I joined the site in 2011, read the forums most days but have never posted until today. Just wanted to say its a great place to find information as an expat. Whenever I'm feeling a little homesick or I am missing that dry British sense of humour, I come to the site and immediately feel better! I left the UK back in 2008 when I got my green card and have lived in the Nashville area since emigrating. Just wanted to say Hi!

Hi BB, welcome to British Expats, as a posting member.
I live next door in NC, after arriving in the US in 2001. It took me 14 months to make my way down here after starting out in NY. You must have set some sort of record for the time between a first and second post! Hopefully we will see another post from you before early 2024? |

As you are not a new member to our forums I will move this thread over to the US Trailer Park Forum. |

Hi back, from another part of TN. I'm in Knoxville. We moved over in mid Feb this year on 3-year visas but potentially with the option of extending. I haven't made it over to Nashville yet, but certainly will do.
I've been to Nashville and Memphis and enjoyed both cities. |

The wife's sister used to live in Clarksville and we would try to get down to visit every year, but now she moved to AZ :sneaky: I have a cousin who lives in East Nasty. Never thought I'd like the city as I hate country music, but I love the place. Roberts Western World is one of my fav bars on the planet :p |

How is Tennessee working out for your family so far? Have you had a chance to take any road trips to other states? I live near Lynchburg.
Lynchburg I fancy as a trip (JD obvs, but not sure it would interest the littlies). And I want to see walking horses at some point. Re trips, we've been to Huntsville to see space rocket stuff, Chatanooga for caves and aquarium (and Thomas the Tank Engine). Did a longer trip to NYC and DC in the summer. That was a LONG time in the car. And some day trips to the smokies (must get back out there again to see the autumn colour). Also a brief beach break in Florida around Easter time. Frankly there are so many trips I want to do but it's getting the balance re annual leave plus picking things that are family-friendly. We imagined taking more long weekends but that was when we presumed there would be options akin to deals you see around Europe. Flying is expensive here. That aside, there are so many national parks that I want to visit it's hard to know where to start. |

It's going well, thanks for asking. Our 3-y-o had a blast tonight with the neighborhood kids trick or treating. Some decorations were a sight to behold.

That's a lot of traveling for the short time you have been here. If you do come this way maybe join my wife and I for lunch. Shelbyville (walking horse capital) and Lynchburg are only 10 to 15 miles apart. In aug or sept Shelbyville hosts the big walking horse convention at a indoor arena. The Jack Daniels tour is free and run everyday except Christmas.
Likewise, if ever you are in the Knoxville vicinity you could join us. |
Re: Hello from Nashville TN
Oh wow so you got here well before everything took off? I moved to E.Nashville from 2014. Even in 3 years the change and development I've seen has been staggering. I'm riding MTA, it's a lot different to what I'm used to but somehow the buses seem to be more reliable here than back in Blighty?!
Traffic is getting so bad, particularly on the bridges over the river. I signed to support Barry's transit plan though can't vote and have managed to get on radar a much needed crosswalk at an intersection out by the airport that I use for work. We will still be without a sidewalk though. I was working out by Centennial Park and we got moved out to near the airport. It's kinda cool seeing the air traffic buzzing. Around the CMA's it was craaaaazy, like Heathrow, one every minute coming in, some passenger jets some private jets. Housing is our biggest thing right now, we fear that we will be buying high in an overheated market and going through the inevitable devaluation that's coming. South Nashville beyond Berry Hill really is looking the only affordable option. |
