I have been in OZ for 2 years, my wife has not settled in and we are looking to move back. I ask for the following help :-
1. We have two children 15 and 13 anyone had experience of getting them back into school, will it be best to hold them back a year? 2. How did you look for jobs back in the UK any good advice in this area will be appreciated. (I am a professional maintenance manager ) thanks Derek |
Re: hekp
Our children are not that old but from what I gather they should slot back easily into the UK education system. Holding them back a year may allow them to become bored and more resentful about a move?
Jobs; my husband signed up to about 12 agencies in the UK from Oz. It was not until we arrived back that they took him seriously. Most were all talk, only 2 seemed to actually do anything and one secured a good job. Good luck, being happy is what counts.:) |
Re: hekp
How do your kids feel about going back? If they are up for it I don't think you'll have a problem at all. They will slot right back into things easily. The issues will arise if they are resentful of going back. Then you may well have a few teenage sulks on your hands! Good luck to you anyway.

Re: hekp
My kids are older than that but the first thing I would do is contact schools here to discuss the level that they are at now and where best they would fit back into the British system. You won't want them being at the wrong level but equally won't want them to waste time doing stuff they already know and boredom creeping in.
Workwise is more difficult as like seasprite said some don't take you seriously until you are actually here but I guess it wouldn't harm to introduce yourself and familiarise yourself with potential employers. It's always worrying moving across the world whichever way you go but go with the flow, be patient and it works out in the end  |
Re: hekp
All,
Thanks for that. One child will be glad to go back and one will not be happy going back. Did you go back to the same area as you cam from or did you move to a different area in England? Derek |
