Re: Have I finally insulted an American about Accents
Me & Mrs HTS were in a sweet shop in Mill Ave, downtown Tempe, AZ the other day. The nice you g lady asked where we were from. I challenged her to guess. When she said 'the UK' (exact words) I thought 'hello, hello, could we have an unusual American here?'
I told her she was right, and further challenged her with 'which part?' and she went for 'Portsmouth'.
Not bad.
We lived in Fareham, about 8 miles away, and since 1995 we've been in and around that area...
Turns out her best pal was at university in Portsmouth - very unusual yanks, the both of them?
Anyway, Mrs HTS then bought a bucket load of UK sweets. Lovely. All I had to do was pay for them & carry them...

My fiancé is from England but everyone here always thinks he's Australian! We live in Pittsburgh too... But this happens everywhere. Lol! I mean, I lived in England for a year and I'm still not really sure what country the Geiko gecko is from...... ? maybe it's genetic!

Re: Have I finally insulted an American about Accents
I am rather blessed. My "accent" as it were can only be referred to as an "American" accent. Though I've lived in the American South for a large part of my life I don't have the Southern Drawl. My American friends usually have to ask where I'm from.
