has anyonme experienced culture shock when visiting the USA?
me yes. after living in the foothills of the georgia appalachian mountains for 4 years, hardly seeing anyone, not socialising etc me and the missus visited a friend in NYC. i felt like i was back in the kashmir valleys the skyscapers were so high. so many thousands of people walking around and us with our silly suitcases dragging around to find a cab. i've never felt so vulnerable for my wife. even in london i'd smash a few faces if they looked at her funny. i had to pull mysen together quick time. then the fricking cabbie got annoyed with us because he got lost and threw us out in a really dodgy neighbourhood. (turns out that this bronx neighbourhood was where our friend lived and was just a tough family puerto rican neighbourhood, very friendly familys) i left NYC 2 days after bombs massacred londoners and flew back to a very dark and different london for a week which inspired my novel.
