Has anyone been to India?
Hi all,
Kind of a quite night so I thought I'd start a thread. Curious to see if you enjoyed India if you've been. I may have an opportunity to go there for a week for school in March - it just depends on if I decide to fork out the cash or to use a week of my vacation to go. I also wonder if it's worthwhile to go for just a week? (Or technically weekend + week + weekend) It must take quite a while to get there. Kathy |

Yes I went there many years ago, 1979-1980. and loved it. It is hard to answer your question without (a) knowing you, and (b) admitting that I have no comprehension of the changes that have occurred in India. Why do you want to visit there? Andrew |

Andrew I love to travel in general, and India's probably not somewhere I'd otherwise be able (or most likely) to visit. My interest in going there in particular is that in this case I could complete my degree in March instead of in June. That's pretty appealing! |

I haven't but my husband has...he spent time with his brother in New Delhi. He's also been to India on business.

Re: Has anyone been to India?
I used to go to India twice a year for work but basically all I ever saw was the bars and docks in Bombay. Had a week in Goa at the end of one job but that was about it for sightseeing. The day after I came home from the first trip I went down with a volcanic case of the squirts and thought I was going to die.

I have been to India a couple of times. Dehli, Bangalore, & Bombay. A few years ago though. What part are you thinking of going to? |
Re: Has anyone been to India?
I think that visiting any country should involve a respect for that country.
OK I don't want to sound pompous here so please bear with me. If you know nothing of India don't go, unless.... If you want to learn nothing of India, then don't go, unless... If this is just about a degree then don't go, unless... |

Honestly - it seemed like a slow night and I just learned of this possibility today and was very excited about it - so I thought I'd see if anyone had been and enjoyed themselves. That's all. |

Unfortunately all I know at this point is that the program is looking to go to India - it's a business program so I would expect we would visit cities which are important business centers or where we could visit companies, etc. I wish I knew more about it! With my luck they'll change the destination - it sounds too cool to be true.

Re: Has anyone been to India?
KJ, you should deffo go to India - I worked out there for a few months 2 years ago - Delhi and Chennai, both amazing places for tourists and 'workers' - I only have one word of warning..never drive yourself!! complete madness, of course they are all used to it, so it's 'normal' for them. Oh! maybe 2 words of warning..don't go in June, July or August....120 deg heat and 200% humidity unless you like it hot and steamy!

Kathy and then 10 days or so taking it easy in Kovalam http://www.photoatlas.com/photo/india_beach_kovalam.jpg Really fascinating country, people friendly and hospitable by and large and not an opportunity to pass up. |
