Just upgraded to a Cat 4.

We are about 25 miles from the coastline but all day long we have had strong bands of rain, increased wind and since 3pm we have had tornado activity all around us. My drive home from work at 4.30 was horrendous and the storm has not even hit land yet. Also we are a good 100 or so miles away from where it is supposed to land! This storm is going to effect a super large area and will supposedly last for 3 or 4 days if it stalls along the coastline as predicted.

On the otherhand, my daughter and son in law live an hour north of us in Houston and they have had a few sprinkles of rain today, no thunder, tornados or any inclement weather yet!

And as I write this there goes the power. Power surges already, not a good start.
Candles and flashlights are ready along with the beer and chocolate. It will be a long night

Stay safe, hopefully not too many lost roofs and windows. On the plus side there is generally good weather that follows.

Bit late now but if anyone needs a place to stay out of the danger zone, just holler.

The wind, if the forecasts are correct should not be a big problem for us. It will be the constant rain which will cause flooding.

We built a levee around our house after 3 pretty bad flooding events. It has helped in the last couple of years, well that and the larger drainage ditch the city put in after the cemetery started flooding as well But this storm could be more than either can handle. Just keeping all right now.

We do appreciate your offer but we both have jobs fairly essential for the after effects of any disaster so we usually hunker down either at home or in the county courthouse.

We've rebooked our flights to arrive 6pm Wednesday. This makes my wife happy, but I'm not sure my boss will be. Now, we need to find accommodation.

I think your boss should be fine with that. Most companies expect absences when their are weather related disasters. It's better to be safe.

I hope you can land ok by Wednesday. Lots of media stories of the storm staying right through the week . I hope not

Oh a cat 4, on the Florida hurricane scale that would mean you need to bring in the parasols.

We lost power too but now we are back up and running. I would upgrade it to "quite breezy" round us. Tornado warnings fairy frequently.

Sounds worrying all round.

Just stay safe and no going out in that lot. I don't want to see you guys lifted by the wind and set down here.

.....on second thoughts.

The BBC had a reporter broadcasting from the area this morning, high winds ans lots of rain, and the reporter looking a little worried about the nearest street lights, so they cut the segment off to let her find a safer spot, she then reappeared in a different place and continued, but she still seemed to be in danger of being blown off her feet.
