Happy Thanksgiving

Re: Happy Thanksgiving
I don’t miss it at all...I lived in the US for almost 20 years and couldn’t get into it. I think it’s because it’s near Christmas and Christmas is the big holiday for us. Christmas in the US is a one day event

I think I just miss family...Its just me and my wife, her family doesn't include us in much of anything since its just us.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving
We never did much growing up for Christmas, opened gifts in the morning and that was it. Thanksgiving is when everyone came to visit, and my dad and his wife still do a big dinner, but don't do much on Christmas other then gift opening.

Happy Thanksgiving all!
Had a bad injury a couple weeks ago involving surgery and many many stitches on my right hand, so my wife is on cut-the-turkey duty this year!
Thanks to OF for being a like-minded conservative and not constantly screaming 'won't somebody please think about the children'
All jokes aside, I hope everyone stays safe and has a lovely day off!

We had a Halloween Tiki party and batched up some zombies and mai-tais. Had 60 limes and 30 lemons to slice. Got a little way in and sliced a big chunk off my thumb. Alcohol may have been involved.
Bled like a mofo for ages. Ended up trying to superglue it. I feel your pain.

Happy Thanksgiving one and all.
I have won half the battle and got proper treacle tart for desert, next year I will be gunning harder for replacing the fowl with beef...
I am most thankful, at this moment, for USCIS officer, last Monday, checking the box against the statement 'Congratulations, your application has been recommended for approval' on the slip of paper given to me post N400 interview.

Do any of your family come to Canada to celebrate Canada's Thanksgiving in October with you? I understand home sickness

Re: Happy Thanksgiving
I didn't see this thread yesterday because I didn't switch my computer on until after 9pm and I didn't bother to check BE at that point
Anyway, I hope everyone had a nice time yesterday and that no more extremities were accidentally removed.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving
Just turned a 20lb, $60 turkey into dog food.
Wife (who has Hashimoto's so can't do gluten) never learned how to cook, and is usually very busy at this time of year.
So it falls on me. Usually, I'll get up at 7am and put the turkey on.
This year, she insists it needs to be cooked overnight. She thought it needed to cook for seven or eight hours.
I should've said, no, four is sufficient. And went and did it anyway. It's possible libations may have clouded some judgment.
Anyway, beep, beep, beep. Turkey is "ready" at about 1:30am. Midway through the second viewing of White Christmas.
Something doesn't look right. It looks rough. Not much meat on it. Weird. Pour out most of the juices and then leave in oven over night.
Next morning, bleary eyed and with a sinking feeling, I review the turkey. Yes, I have cooked it upside down. And now it's been sat in its own juices for several hours and probably wasn't cooked long enough. We had some, then got paranoid, and now it's all going to the dogs. What a waste.
On, and my gluten-free Yorkshires came out like hockey pucks. Live and learn.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving
I would really miss it if I wasn't here. What is better than a 4 day weekend with lots of food and no work? Also no pressure of decorating the house, buying presents and spending too much money.
As for only having one day for Christmas, again with planning ahead we have always tried to make sure we have christmas eve, christmas day and boxing day off work. To me celebrations are what you make of them yourself, we kept up a lot of the traditions we had when we were back in the UK but we have also added some since we have been here.
So now you are in Canada do you celebrate the CanadianThanksgiving weekend?

Good Gravy! $3.00 per lb???????????? Did you pick it out of the gaggle and watch it being head chopped and plucked? We got a top of the line 18 lb. Honeysuckle White for $.49 per lb. The juiciest, flavorful bird we ever had.
Poor birdie. Our 18 pounder with stuffing took approximately 5 hours.
Happy dogs!
Well it is ice hockey season in the north.
